Weekend Project

Over the weekend we cut a hole through our kitchen into our breakfast/sun room. Here are some pics of the project. As you can see, we used to hang a mirror above the sink.

Daddy always seemed to have plenty of help, whether or not he seemed to want it!!
Cutting out the back side of the window.

We finally punched through. Check out the old fluorescent bulb that used to hang above the sink. What an eye sore!!
Finishing up the trim on the back side.
Check out Michelle's new light. She is pretty proud of her new kitchen accessory.
We decided to paint the trim on the back side white so it would match better.

I had to include a pic of my newly acquired routering skills on the window sill. I managed to finagle a brand new router out of this project. Michelle keeps on tasking me, but I don't mind if I keep getting new tools out of each deal!!

HAPPY 231st BIRTHDAY MARINES!!!

The U.S. Marine Corps was founded in Philadelphia's Tun Tavern in 1775 by the Second Continental Congress. Each November 10th, the Marines celebrate the event with a ball and cake cutting ceremony in which the birthday cake is shaped like the tavern. Traditionally, the first piece of cake is presented to the oldest Marine present and the second piece to the youngest Marine present.

Happy Birthday and Semper Fidelis Marines! Especially to those who are gutting through MRE pound cake currently in Iraq. If you are feeling especially motivated check out this link. http://www.pcsuccess.us/yrg/farewell.html

Another day in IRAQ

A local sheep herder let us borrow his donkey for some free rides one lazy afternoon. Inside a typical house in our Area of Operations. Pretty easy to straighten up each day!
Traveling around some burnt out tankers which were recently ambushed. Notice the IED hole directly off the left side of the road. Crossing the Tigris River was always interesting!!He we are in the staging area right before kicking off a big mission.Another shot of the Tigris River. We called this the mini Grand Canyon. If you look closely, you can see little caves. These are where we found numerous hidden weapons and caches. Here is one of my motivated "Devil Dogs" serving as a tunnel rat and rooting out the terrorist's hidden caches.

This is what came out of the previous hole alone!!
We proudly lay out what we have found. Not bad for one day's work.

IRAQ

Just another random vehicle search. I'm using the "terp" to question the Iraqi.
Who says you can't have fun in Iraq?
Another random search in progress.
Patrolling through one of the nearby villages.
Sitting in one of our many observation posts.
I think the poor trucks worked harder than we did!The terrain was pretty rough in some spots. Most of the green that you see is a result of the local farmers irrigating their crops. It got to be challenging navigating through the myriad of ditches and canals that watered the desert.
During my pre-patrol brief right before setting off for the next 12 hours.

Keeping tabs on a local mayor of this village. His two sons are on the left.

Mike was my right hand man. He was my personal "terp" (interpreter) from Sudan, who has been in Iraq since 2002.
Another vehicle search.
